Suggestions for a first car?

Question by : Suggestions for a first car?
I'm 16 years old, and going to have my licence in a few months
I've done a little research but know little about cars and their value.
My budget at the time should be about 11, 000$ CAD, and my parents might pitch in a couple grands as well.
I'm looking for a car, somewhat nice, that i could keep for a good amount of time. Keep in mind that i also need to pay for insurance and fuel.
What do you guys suggest?
